Jay Lethal and Tony Deppen are the final names confirmed for the upcoming ROH Pure Championship tournament.
Lethal is no stranger to holding championship gold and in fact, the 34-year-old is a former ROH Pure Champion. Lethal held the belt for 62 days starting in March 2005 and would only have two successful title defenses before dropping it to Samoa Joe at Manhattan Mayhem.
While Deppen is a newcomer to ROH, the Pennsylvania native brings his eleven years of experience into the tournament. Deppen is a former GCW Extreme Champion, OPW Heavyweight Champion, and TRUE Champion. This will be the first time that he competes for a championship in Ring of Honor.
Jay Lethal and Tony Deppen join Josh Woods, Ren Narita, Joe Hendry, Yuji Nagata, Fred Yehi, Marty “The Villain” Scurll, Tracy Williams, Slex, Alex Shelley, Mark Haskins, Jonathan Gresham, Doug Williams, and Rocky Romero for a chance to make history and become the first Pure Champion since 2006. The tournament to crown the next Ring of Honor Pure Champion begins at Pure Excellence on Friday, April 10 in Columbus and Saturday, April 11 in Pittsburgh.
