We're saddened to report that Ring of Honor star Jay Briscoe (Jamin Pugh) has passed away, aged 38, following a fatal car crash in Laurel, Delaware. It's unclear what happened at this stage, but one other person died and two people are believed to be in critical condition.
Alongside his brother, Mark, Jay was a Ring of Honor mainstay who was part of the promotion for 20 years. The Briscoe Brothers also worked for CZW, NWA Wildside, and NWA among others, but never made it to WWE or AEW. Jay's offensive comments on social media in 2013 were the reason for that, though he later apologised profusely.
Things had started turning around for the tag team after a critically acclaimed series of matches with FTR, resulting in them becoming part of the new AEW-owned Ring of Honor.
Jay first won the ROH Tag Team Championships in 2003, alongside his brother, with their thirteenth reign beginning after last month's Final Battle when they beat FTR in a Double Dog Collar match.
Jay was also a two-time ROH World Champion, and wrestled across the world with Mark, picking up many a championship along the way.
This is obviously really upsetting news and the pro wrestling world has lost one of its greatest stars. It was really beginning to feel like the Briscoe Brothers were going to step into the spotlight and receive the attention they deserve. Tributes have poured in, though Mark has yet to issue any sort of statement.
Our thoughts go out to Jay's family at this time.
