The Pure Championship is back!
Several weeks ago, Will Ospreay expressed his desire for the prestigious belt to return and the message on social media got very positive feedback from fans.
The ROH Pure Championship was created with specific rules surrounding the belt, as closed-first punches were illegal, and each competitor was allowed three rope breaks to stop submission holds and pinfalls during the match; after that, pinfalls and submission holds on or under the ropes would be legal.
The title was held by the likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal, Bryan Danielson (WWE’s Daniel Bryan), and Niguel McGuinness. The belt was unified with the ROH World Championship back in 2006.
A tournament to crown the next Pure Champion will begin with first-round matches at Pure Excellence in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, April 10 and Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 11. The participants for the tournament have not been confirmed yet.
