Chris Jericho's recent WWE run has been hailed as his best yet and it's easy to see why. While his story ended with a brutal defeat at the hands of Kevin Owens which saw Y2J lose the United States Championship to his best friend, he's revealed in a new interview that the original plan was for their feud to play out quite a bit differently.
"Vince called me in and he had a big idea," Jericho said of how the WWE Chairman convinced him to stay back in December of 2016. "The original ideas, as things change all the time, was for me and Kevin Owens to work at WrestleMania and for me to win the title and to lose it to Brock [Lesnar] in Sacremento at the next PPV."
Vince obviously felt it made more sense to make the rematch between Lesnar and Goldberg a title match as Jericho adds, "The Goldberg factor kicked in and Vince changed his mind."
That's a shame as seeing Jericho go one on one with Lesnar would have been great fun, despite the fact that the majority of the latter's matches are pretty uneventful these days. Jericho winning one more world title would have been fun too, but instead, he ended up losing the United States Championship to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania.
