Former WWE Star Elijah Burke Was Spotted Backstage At SMACKDOWN LIVE This Past Tuesday

Elijah Burke, a.k.a. The Pope, was backstage on WWE Smackdown Live after being away from the company for nearly 10 years. Could the former member of the ECW New Breed faction be looking to make a comeback?

In addition to boxing legend Evander Holyfield, it seems that former WWE star Elijah Burke was backstage on Smackdown this past Tuesday. Sources say that Holyfied and Burke are friends or business partners.

Burke came into the WWE as the cornerman for another wrestler, Sylvester Terkay; who was later released from the company in 2007. Burke then went on as a singles competitor in the company and received a mini-push but was ultimately released in 2008.

The last we saw of Burke, he was working for Impact as an announcer and a part-time wrestler in 2017, using the name "Da Pope" D'Angelo Dinero. Burke announced his TNA/Impact/GFW departure in mid-August of that year. There's no word on whether he was just visiting or trying to make a return.

Below is a photo of Burke backstage with Kofi Kingston last night:
