WWE Friday Night SmackDown for August 29, 2025 has yet to air in the United States on the USA Network at its regular 8 p.m. ET time slot, but aired on Netflix internationally at 3 p.m. when the show was taped.
During that show—with a full results breakdown here—nearly every championship on the blue brand was given some sort of progression, be it a No. 1 contender established, or in one case, a new champion being crowned outright.
Here is your summary breakdown of the big events that took place.
Undisputed WWE Championship
Cody Rhodes was apparently written off television with the attack from Drew McIntyre because his wife, Brandi Rhodes, just gave birth to their second child, daughter Leilani Ella Runnels. Rhodes is also off filming his role as Guile in the upcoming live action Street Fighter film (which also stars Roman Reigns and New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Hirooki Goto)
In the meantime, Drew McIntyre continues to fight with Randy Orton. No formal announcement has been made for a match between the two.
WWE Women's Championship
Jade Cargill had a backstage segment with Tiffany Stratton, informing her that SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has named Cargill the new No. 1 contender after she picked up the win in their tag team match last week over Nia Jax and Becky Lynch. They had a back-and-forth about how Stratton is going to beat her again, whereas Cargill is adamant she's winning the title this time.
WWE United States Championship
Sami Zayn defeated Solo Sikoa in the main event to win the United States title. There was interference from the rest of the MFTs, but Zayn had Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu to back him up. It took two Helluva Kicks, but Zayn was able to put Sikoa out for a three-count to capture the only other title on the main roster that he's yet to win, other than becoming a world champion.
WWE Women's United States Championship
Michin defeated Kiana James immediately after the bell rang with a roll-up. She was then beaten down by James and Giulia. While nothing was formally announced, the whole concept behind this was that if Michin defeated James, she would likely be granted a shot at Giulia's Women's United States Championship. It is expected that match will probably not take place on next week's show, but will be announced somewhere down the line.
WWE Women's Tag Team Championship
For whatever reason, Piper Niven wasn't on this episode, so the scheduled tag team title match between Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair against The Secret Hervice was altered. Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre attacked Flair's leg prior to the match, which was then changed to a singles bout between Green and Bliss. Alexa was victorious, but after the match, she was beaten down by Green and Fyre. Flair limped out to try to help, but was also taken out.
Men's WWE Tag Team Championship
The Street Profits defeated Melo Don't Miz to earn a title shot against The Wyatt Sicks. Prior to the match, Bo Dallas had appeared to both teams in backstage segments, getting in their heads. This was enough to make The Miz distracted when The Wyatt Sicks appeared ringside, and as a result, Carmelo Hayes wasn't able to make a tag to get The Miz into the match and was double-teamed by Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford.
It was announced that tag team match will take place this Sunday at Clash in Paris, which at this point features the following card:
- Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship: The Wyatt Sicks (Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy) (c) vs. The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford)
- John Cena vs Logan Paul
- Roman Reigns vs Bronson Reed
- Good Ol’ Fashioned Donnybrook Match: Sheamus vs Rusev
- Singles Match for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs Nikki Bella
- Fatal 4-Way Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs CM Punk vs Jey Uso vs LA Knight
