It's been revealed today that Toni Storm has been released by WWE. She wrestled Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women's Championship on the Christmas Eve edition of the show in a match that received negative reviews for the way The Queen cleanly defeated the former NXT Superstar.

As recently as this week, Storm appeared to share her disappointment with the way she's been booked on the main roster in an interview with Ryan Satin on his Out of Character podcast.

"When you’re sat in catering, it’s not a good feeling," she admitted. "Just sitting there waiting for your shot. Waiting for your big break. Waiting to show everyone what you’ve worked your life to be good at. I just sat there [asking] ‘When am I next? What’s happening?’ Now [when] stuff starts happening, I’m still like, ‘what’s going on?’ Oh, my God. What is my life?"

Storm got over with fans in a big way in NXT, but WWE has booked her terribly on SmackDown. That's become the norm, of course, so it makes sense why she chose to ask for her release before it got any worst. We're sure there's more story to tell here, though it remains to be see when we'll hear from Storm considering the fact she's likely under a 90-day non-compete with WWE.

Stay tuned for updates.
