During Monday night's RAW, Michael Cole announced that, after being Curb Stomped on the steel steps by Seth Rollins at the Royal Rumble PLE, Roman Reigns is "out of action for the foreseeable future."
PWInsider.com has since chimed in, confirming that the Tribal Chief's injury is storyline-based and meant to keep him off television for the time being. Simply put, it's WWE's way of explaining Reigns' absence from RAW and SmackDown without drawing attention to him taking another hiatus.
The site has also reiterated that WWE is still building to Reigns vs. Rollins vs. CM Punk at WrestleMania. It's unclear how we're going to get to a Triple Threat match involving the three Superstars (or whether a title will be involved) but this has main event potential.
However, even with WrestleMania taking place over two nights, it's hard to say what will take those main event spots right now. Royal Rumble winner Jey Uso is talking about main eventing the Show of Shows and will likely face World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
It's also widely believed that we'll see John Cena challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
During a recent interview with No-Contest Wrestling, Reigns talked about what he hopes to achieve next after what's proven to be a phenomenal few years being at the centre of the Bloodline storyline.
"I’m a sick man. I got that thing. I got that drive. I want more. Always want more. Goalposts go back. Oh, we’re in the endzone. Move them back again. There is another level. I’m always trying to get better. I just believe that this is what I’m supposed to do. The Wiseman [Paul Heyman] picks me up in the morning, ‘How are you doing?’ I woke up. Everybody else is [frick]ed because I woke up. That’s how I look at it. You all had a chance until I woke up. Today is mine. That’s just what it is."
Reigns vs. Rollins makes sense as does Rollins vs. Punk but what will bring the three of them on a collision course - beyond the Second City Saint eliminating the OTC from the Rumble - is hard to say.
As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them.
