There were lots of big rumours heading into this year's Royal Rumble, including Stone Cold Steve Austin coming back to win the men's match and The Rock finally confronting Roman Reigns to decide who is really the Head of the Table. Neither of those things happened, leaving fans to wonder whether either Superstar will be part of WrestleMania.
The Texas Rattlesnake stepped back into the ring to face Kevin Owens at last year's Show of Shows, but despite WWE offering him huge money, Dave Meltzer is reporting that Austin turned down the chance to face Reigns and Brock Lesnar.
It sounds like he could have named his opponent, but for whatever reason, it appears Austin is just not interested. Last year took a lot of convincing, though, and as he is another year older, it could be that the WWE Hall of Famer has come to terms with the fact he can't step into the squared circle and deliver the match fans would want.
The Rock, on the other hand, is someone we haven't seen in WWE for a while now.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that the Brahma Bull had decided he couldn't get into peak condition for a match at WrestleMania this year (his many Hollywood commitments were also an issue).
However, while you might think that means the odds of us ever seeing him face Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All are slim to none, Meltzer says he's leaving the door open to potentially compete at WrestleMania 40. We've been hearing the same thing for years now, though, so we're not banking on it happening.
The Road to WrestleMania is always a crazy time in WWE, though, so who knows what the company has planned. Cody Rhodes will challenge for the title at the event, but there's chatter that Sami Zayn could be thrown into the mix somehow.
Stay tuned for updates.
