Keith Lee made his WWE return earlier this year after a lengthy absence, but WWE fans weren't happy to see him take quick losses to Karrion Kross and Bobby Lashley.

The former NXT Champion quickly vanished from television, and has since been working dark matches as a heel. Rumour has it WWE is looking to repackage Lee as a top bad guy in the company, hence why he's been trying out the gimmick in dark matches before RAW and SmackDown. However, one interesting addition to Lee is his new "Bearcat" nickname.

He's being referred to as Keith "Bearcat" Lee in what appears to be a tribute to the legendary Bearcat Wright. Lee has also been growing out his facial hair, so chances are we'll get a very different version of his character compared to the one who fell flat with fans when he was called up from NXT.

There had been tentative plans for Adam Cole to serve as Lee's manager before he signed with AEW, so it remains to be seen whether the plan is to still give Lee a mouthpiece in WWE.

Check out the clip below to hear Lee announced as "Keith 'Bearcat' Lee":

I wish they would fire the writers and hire some retired wrestlers as bookers. The “big dog” jargon like this “bearcat” are extremely lame and artificial. I can’t watch the product anymore and that’s coming from someone who has followed it since e early 80s.
