Much to the disappointment of a lot of fans, we learned last night that John Cena will not be part of Sunday's Royal Rumble match. It was said that he suffered an ankle injury at the hands of Drew McIntyre but the real reason for his absence was revealed on today's Wrestling Observer Radio.

Cena isn't actually injured but he was never going to be in the 30-man match. The original plan was for Lars Sullivan to attack him backstage in order to force him to miss the PPV as a cover for him going away to shoot a movie. That was meant to build to Cena taking on Sullivan at WrestleMania

There's no word on Sullivan's absence since he failed to appear on RAW but this is bound to change WWE's plans for the event and this is why the company was forced to come up with the storyline that he was actually injured by McIntyre. We'll be sure to bring you guys more as and when we have it.
