Io Shirai has been one of the most popular Superstars on the NXT brand for quite some time, so it was always a given that she would win the Women's Championship at some point, and she finally accomplished that goal at NXT TakeOver: In Your House.

Shirai faced off against Rhea Ripley and defending champion Charlotte Flair in the main event, and it was easily the match of the night. Although The Queen asserted her dominance early on and even resorted to using a kendo stick (no DQ in a triple-threat), The Evil Genius of The Sky played it smart and allowed her larger opponents to wear each other down while struck with occasional offence.

In the end, Charlotte locked her Figure-8 on Ripley, but before she could tap out, Shirai landed a moonsalt on The Nightmare (actually, right on her face... it looked pretty nasty) and kept her down for the 3-count.

Expect Ripley to lay down a one-on-one challenge at some point (Candice LeRae may also enter the title picture), but we reckon Shirai should get a decent run with the gold. What do you guys make of NXT TakeOver: In Your House? Let us know in the comments.
