Nick Aldis became a highly sought-after free agent after leaving the NWA earlier this year. There was a lot of speculation that he'd ultimately sign with AEW (WWE never seemed like a realistic possibility), but the National Treasure officially returned to IMPACT Wrestling during the recent Rebellion PPV.
Aldis joined the commentary team for the main event, which saw KUSHIDA face Steve Maclin in a match to crown a new World Champion after Josh Alexander was forced to relinquish the title due to an injury.
Maclin pulled out the victory, and Aldis made his way to the ring to confront the new champ and officially issue a challenge.
Aldis has a long history with IMPACT (formerly known as TNA), so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that he decided to re-sign with the company. Many fans were hoping to see him mix it up with the likes of Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley in AEW, but that could still happen down the line (we don't know how long this current IMPACT contract is for).
