AEW Ring Announcer Dasha Gonzalez Reflects On WWE Release And Not Being Allowed To Show Personality

Better known as Dasha Fuentes in WWE, All Elite Wrestling ring announcer and backstage interviewer Dasha Gonzalez has reflected on being released by WWE and being stopped from showing any sort of personality.

WWE's backstage interviewers are often criticised for not showing any personality, but that's the way WWE likes it. It's bizarre, but something the company seemingly does in order to stop them from overshadowing the Superstars they're asking their often overly scripted questions.

These days, Dasha Fuentes is better known as Dasha Gonzalez in All Elite Wrestling, and serves as both a ring announcer and backstage interviewer. That led to her being interviewed by Chris Jericho for his "Talk Is Jericho" podcast, and she revealed that WWE told her to show no emotion while on screen.

"I was always told I had too much personality and I had to dial it down. I was told it is not about the interviewer it’s about the person being interviewed," she explained. "I had a lot of conflict because I had a lot of personality and I felt my personality could put over what the talent was saying but they said, it is not about you, it is about the talent. The light was shined on the talent so you had to ask your question, don’t show facial expression and let their answers make the viewer have a certain sentiment or feeling. I wasn’t allowed to nod. I felt I had to get the question exactly verbatim how it was written or the world was going to end. Interviewing wasn’t my thing I guess."

That sounds like WWE all over, and it's crazy to think she wasn't even given the opportunity to nod. You have to believe she's now much happier no longer being part of WWE, especially as they didn't even value her enough to give her a reason for her release.

"I got a phone call and they said we are letting you go and I didn’t get any answers," Gonzalez revealed. "It was after WrestleMania. I was out of work for six months. There are always ups and downs in the company. I didn’t take it personally. Some doors close for greater ones to open. You stop to think, what did I do? But at the end of the day, I gave it 110% everyday for 5 years. I worked my tail off for them, but I don’t take it personally. It is what it is. It’s the nature of the beast. If you’re not a chosen one, then, that’s how it is. I was down for a little bit. But, I’m such an optimist, that I’m not going to let that stop me. I’m the little engine that could."

Needless to say, we definitely wish Gonzalez all the best in her future endeavours for her post-WWE career!
