The Undertaker's last match took place at WrestleMania 36, and it was there that he introduced fans to his third and final in-ring persona, "The Unholy Trinity" (a mix of the Deadman and American Badass).
Defeating AJ Styles in a cinematic "Boneyard match," the Phenom rode his motorcycle off into the sunset after scoring his 25th victory at the Show of Shows. Since then, The Undertaker has been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and made sporadic appearances on WWE programming.
During a recent edition of his podcast, Taker confirmed that no amount of money could convince him to step back into the ring for "One. More. Match."
Bubba Ray Dudley wondered whether any "ridiculous offer" could change his mind, to which the iconic professional wrestler issued a blunt response: "No."
He added, "I don’t think...look, the only way that I could put the hat and the coat back on is I’d have to get back in the ring. And I can’t do that because that also jeopardizes the legacy. As much as I have here [points to head] and as much as I have here [points to heart], I know that there’s not enough left in the tank to do that."
"When I retired, I actually retired half of my character, the hat, the coat, that whole side of the Undertaker I retired. I kind of retained the American Badass kind of part of it, the one that actually can relate to people," The Undertaker continued. "And so that helps me, because I will not jeopardize that part of my legacy."
"And it frustrates a lot of people who want to do business with me because they want that," he noted. "And the fact now that I’m at a point where I absolutely will not put it back on. That’s how I protect that."
The Undertaker struggled during his final few years in WWE, as the years finally caught up to him. The benefit of the COVID-19 pandemic was that his last match was cinematic and able to cover up any shortcomings we'd have seen had he and Styles gone one-on-one in the ring.
As noted, The Undertaker continues to make sporadic appearances on WWE programming, including the first RAW on Netflix where he gave Rhea Ripley the seal of approval. He also showed up during the main event of WrestleMania last April to lend Cody Rhodes a helping hand against The Rock. Taker also appeared on NXT recently.
