Mariah May signed with AEW in November 2023 and, despite having already made a name for herself in Stardom, many feel that she's one of the first "homegrown" talents to have emerged from Tony Khan's company.
May received widespread acclaim for her memorable feud with Toni Storm in 2024, and later won the AEW Women's Championship at All In before Storm managed to recapture the title.
Their feud concluded at the AEW Revolution PPV in March, and May hasn't been seen since. Now, it's being widely reported that she's planning to make the jump to WWE, becoming the latest wrestler to use Tony Khan's company as a stepping stone to bigger and brighter things.
Talking on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said, "She put a post up, basically saying that I forgot the exact words, but it was saying like there are no mistakes on your journey because you want to get to where you want to be or something. It’s all part of the trip of getting to where you want to be."
"She had a photo of Orlando, Florida, and I know from people in WWE that they know she wants to go there," he continued. "I think people saw that cryptic thing. I don’t know when her contract is up. Everyone seems to think it’s the summer that it’s up."
Bryan Alvarez chimed in to say, "I was given the impression it was a two-year deal that she signed originally. So I guess you can do the math...I have heard the same thing that at least in AEW, there’s a belief that she’s heading to WWE."
Fightful has since reported that May could be free as soon as this May, though PWInsider.com contradicted that by claiming she still has "significant time" on her current deal with AEW.
One source believes May could be trapped in AEW until November, suggesting it will be a while before we see her in an NXT or WWE ring.
We'll have to wait and see, but the former AEW Women's Champion feels like a perfect fit for WWE and is surely someone Triple H is eager to bring into the fold. The company's women's division is going from strength to strength - even if the booking doesn't always reflect that - and May would be an exciting addition to the main roster.
As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them.
