As you might expect, wrestling news from the past few days has been somewhat overshadowed by the heartbreaking death of former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt.
Shortly before that tragic news broke, WWE Hall of Famer Edge took to Twitter to address the rumours about his in-ring future. Last week's SmackDown celebrated the Rated-R Superstar's 25th anniversary and ended by teasing his retirement following a match with longtime friend Sheamus.
The dirt sheets later claimed that WWE had declined what sounded like some pretty lofty demands by Edge, resulting in him becoming a free agent...and likely signing with AEW once his contract ends at the end of September.
While Edge doesn't mention the rival company in the video below, he does at least try to clear things up a little.
"I woke up to a bunch of voicemails, texts, and everything from actual friends and family wondering what's going on and concerned and blah, blah, blah so I just figured I'd better address it," Edge says. "There's nothing going on. There are no hard feelings between me and WWE. I love WWE. It's my dream gig. It's all I ever wanted to do."
"I didn't come at them with some crazy contract or anything. They didn't deny me, I have a contract extension sitting in my inbox. I just don't know what to do. The first time I had to retire it was forced, and this time, the choice is in my lap and it's a lot harder."
"WWE gave me that night Friday night in Toronto and it was the best night of my career. A lot of people will say you should retire at WrestleMania or this or that but it's not their career," Edge continued. "Friday night was really special for me and I don't know if that can be topped, to be perfectly honest. If we think we can then great but I need to sit with it."
Clearly, no definitive decisions have been made by the legendary Superstar. While a reunion with Christian in AEW is likely tempting, we'd guess Edge will remain with WWE, even if it's just to wrestle a few matches per year (another surprise return at next year's Royal Rumble would be fun).
With any luck, we'll have more details to share soon.
