Two more matches have been added to the lineup for WWE WrestleMania 42 weekend as of the March 27, 2026 edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

Sami Zayn answered the weekly open challenge for the WWE Men's United States Championship, beating Carmelo Hayes for the title (as reported here). That came about in part due to a backstage segment where Trick Williams was told by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis that he had a spot for him at WrestleMania, but didn't have one for Zayn, as the priority would be for champions to defend their titles (despite how Trick is not a champion, but logic has never been a strong part of pro wrestling). Zayn won the title after Trick grabbed the belt and walked off with it, causing some confusion that led to Trick trying to punch Sami, but hitting his former tag team partner instead. Zayn capitalized and won the belt, later being told by Aldis that he would defend the title at WrestleMania against Williams. Why Hayes does not get a rematch has yet to be clarified.

The other match announced for this show is an "unsanctioned match" between Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre. It had been rumored and previously reported that those two might end up fighting inside a Hell in a Cell cage, meaning either WWE had that in mind and changed it to this other gimmick, or there was some confusion behind the scenes with the scoops. Nevertheless, The Samoan Werewolf and The Scottish Psychopath will battle it out in a fight that has no rules, just without the cage.

This brings the current updated card for the WrestleMania 42 lineup to be the following matches currently confirmed:

  • Unsanctioned Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu
  • Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Roman Reigns
  • Singles Match for the Women's World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer (c) vs. Liv Morgan
  • Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Randy Orton
  • Singles Match for the WWE Women's Championship: Jade Cargill (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
  • Singles Match: Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar
  • Singles Match for the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship: AJ Lee (c) vs. Becky Lynch
  • Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Trick Williams
