WWE once hoped to have Roman Reigns vs. The Rock headline next year's WrestleMania, but it's become clear in recent months that Dwayne Johnson's busy Hollywood schedule means it won't happen. The company even mulled over a tag team match with Reigns and Jey Uso against The Rock and Jimmy Uso with the goal to decline who the true Head of the Table in their family is.
It's clear WWE is setting the stage for Reigns to now defend his title against Brock Lesnar at the Show of Shows, but a new rumour suggests that a third competitor could be added to the bout.
Apparently, WWE officials are discussing a Universal Championship Triple Threat main event match for Night 2 of WrestleMania 38 with Reigns vs. Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre. The latter will reportedly be added to the match because the plan is for him to become the blue brand's top babyface moving forward.
This would be a big money match and one that makes sense seeing as McIntyre was responsible for defeating Lesnar for the title inside the empty WWE Performance Center last year for the WWE Championship. The Beast didn't return to WWE after that bout until earlier this year when he confronted Reigns.
During this year's WrestleMania, the Big Dog successfully defended against both Edge and Daniel Bryan.
As always, we'll have to wait and see whether there's any truth to this. Stay tuned.
