Last night's episode of AEW Dynamite featured the shock debut of former WWE Superstar Aleister Black, now going by Malakai Black. Arn Anderson was in the ring for an interview with Tony Schiavone, but before he could really say much, the lights in the building went out.
When they turned on again, Black appeared and hit Arn with the Black Mass. Cody Rhodes hit the ring to help his manager and mentor, but also received a Black Mass for his troubles.
There have been rumours for weeks that the recently released WWE Superstar might head to AEW, though we'd also heard that WWE was keen to re-sign him to a new deal (especially after his wife, Thea Trinidad/Zelina Vega, returned to WWE on Friday night as part of the SmackDown roster).
So, how did Black get around WWE's strict 90-day non-compete?
According to PWInsider, it was all down to a clerical error. When Black was moved from NXT to the main roster a few years ago, WWE basically forgot to change the 30-day non-compete in his contract to 90 days. As a result, he was able to jump ship to AEW after just 35 days.
