The former Alberto Del Rio is in trouble. Again.
The former WWE Champion has found success in AAA Lucha Libre, but this latest incident will prevent him from wrestling in Tijuana, Mexico for the next 180 days. The incident in question stems from Alberto El Patron (indie name) getting into an altercation with a fan this past weekend.
A wild video surfaced of Patron hopping the barricade to confront a fan. According to several reports including f4wonline, the former WWE star was upset over a fan allegedly throwing coins at him. The AAA Mega Champion was having a match against El Hijo de Dr. Wagner that night and Patron’s frustration boiled over once the match concluded. Interestingly enough, fans throwing money into the ring is actually common in AAA, though the trend died down throughout the years.
Reportedly, once Patron jumped over the barricade, he tossed a chair into the stands. In response, another fan threw a chair at Patron. Other fans would chime in by throwing beer cups and various objects were at Patron before he was escorted away.
A woman was unfortunately caught in the crossfire as she was hit by a chair. She was sent to the hospital for her injury. Though he’s been suspended in Tijuana, Patron is still able to wrestle in other states in Mexico. He’s also available to defend the Mega Championship against El Hijo del Vikingo at AAA Rey de Reyes in Mexico City.
As many of you know, Patron is used to controversy at this point. He’s been accused of domestic violence. He was also charged with sexual assault and kidnapping; and though those charges were dropped, the former WWE star has essentially been blackballed by the major American promotions because of his controversies.
Patron has been primarily wrestling in Mexico for the last couple of years. Alberto beat Nic Nemeth back in August 2024 at AAA TripleMania XXXII: Mexico City. The former Del Rio has been mainly fighting for AAA for the past two years. He’s done some outside shows, but the former WWE Champion hasn’t stepped into one of the major promotions since 2018. There’s no word if this incident will cause AAA officials to have Patron drop the belt to Vikingo this weekend, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he did. Nevertheless, there’s no telling how much impact this will have on Patron’s career in AAA. We’ll find out in the coming weeks.
