It didn’t take Cedric Alexander long to book another gig.

Though the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion is still under his 90-non compete clause, a new booking has just been confirmed as United Pro Wrestling announced that the former WWE star will be in action for their “Ready or Not!” show in New Bern, North Carolina, on May 10th. Current TNA star Savannah Evans is also advertised for the show as well.

He even send a little message after the promotion announced his arrival.

The former WWE star was released from his contract after being in the company for over eight years. The release wasn’t particularly shocking since it was clear that WWE didn’t see much in the 35-year-old as he was mainly used as enhancement talent. The strange thing is that Alexander signed a lucrative multi-year deal with the promotion back in September 2024.

However, Alexander did accomplish a lot during his eight years in WWE; in addition to the Cruiserweight Championship, Alexander won the WWE Tag Team titles during The Hurt Business reign, and he’s even a former 24/7 Champion.

He came into the company through the incredible Cruiserweight Classic tournament where he had a strong showing against Kota Ibushi and fans demanded WWE to sign Cedric Alexander. Though the revival of the cruiserweight division turned out to be a bust, guys like him, Musata Ali, and Buddy Matthews worked their asses off to make 205 Live work.

Alexander is a notable name, so he should have no problems getting work on the indie scene. However, the big question is: Will Cedric go to one of the major companies? MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin are in AEW so that does seem like a strong destination for Alexander. However, he would do well in TNA’s X-Division and in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, so Alexander has plenty of options if AEW doesn’t come to fruition.

Cedric has been relatively quiet since his release. His brief message following his release from WWE confirms that he’s ready to get back out there on the independent scene. Clearly, it won't be long until we see Alexander back in action!
