Matt Riddle is no longer your bro.
It’s official, the former MLW World Heavyweight Champion turned heel at MLW’s Slaughterhouse show Saturday. Riddle fought Alex Hammerstone in a one-on-one match, but chaos ensued late. Hammerstone accidentally splashed the referee thanks to Riddle. That allowed Mads Krugger to get the jump on Mr. Hammerstone during the match.
Donovan Dijak came out and he brawled with the MLW World Heavyweight Champion. Meanwhile, Riddle took advantage of the down referee by hitting Hammerstone with a low blow that got him the three count.
Then Riddle got on the mic and trashed the wrestling fans and proclaimed that the King of Bros was done. It was now the era of the Rude Dude.
Given all of Riddle’s controversies as of late, the heel turn was a good idea. Granted, this could’ve been a planned move before Riddle shot himself in the foot with the no-showing the Global Wrestling Kingdom event. It only got worse when Riddle essentially insinuated that AJ Lee was easy and CM Punk was a creep for being in the NXT locker room. And those aren’t the only controversies surrounding the former WWE star.
The interview with TMZ earlier last week certainly didn’t help as Riddle attacked podcast host Bronson Quirke.
Realistically, this seemed like an angle, though I have no confirmation on whether it was or not. This seemed to be a tease for his official turn at Slaughterhouse. It’s not clear where Riddle goes from here, though given his dirty win over Hammerstone, it’s possible that another match takes place between these two. The bout was about 13 minutes and the action was pretty good, though the interference did drag it down somewhat.
Riddle’s turn wasn’t the only big thing that happened on Saturday as former WWE stars Priscilla Kelly and Killer Kross made their MLW returns throughout the night. It should be fun to see what happens next in MLW.
