Flip Gordon is an official member of the CMLL roster.
Remember Flip Gordon? The former ROH star is now a main staple in CMLL as he’s been consistently competing in the promotion since 2023. Now, it’s been confirmed that Gordon is a permanent member of the roster as CMLL revealed that he signed a multi-year deal with the promotion during a NY Times article.
Flip Gordon is notable for his time in Ring of Honor. He started back in 2017, with the 33-year-old making his debut against former ROH World Tag Team Champion Matt Sydal. While Gordon never won any belts within Ring of Honor, he seemed on the verge of becoming the ROH World Champion in 2018 at All In.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and Gordon faded down the card as the years passed by. He did re-sign a multi-year deal with ROH/AEW in 2020, but Gordon was released from his contract in 2022 and he’s been fighting on the indie scene elsewhere.
Back in 2023, Gordon was asked on the Piers Austin interview about whether he had any contacts with ROH/AEW and he made it clear that the company simply wasn’t interested.
“No, I haven’t had any conversations since I got released from Ring of Honor with AEW. But I haven’t asked either. I haven’t reached out to anybody to ask. I feel like if they think I’m good enough, they should reach out to me. Maybe that’s wrong for thinking that, but every other time in my career, the company’s reaching out to me. So I’m just doing what I’m doing. Honestly, I have zero interest in wrestling for TV right now. I’m still experimenting and trying new things and trying to figure out who I am as a wrestler, who I want to be as a wrestler, and I’m having a hell of a time doing it. I’m having so much fun,” Gordon said.
Though Tony Khan doesn’t seem to be interested in Gordon, he’s certainly not sweating it as he wasn’t looking for any big time contracts since leaving ROH in 2022. He was even asked about jumping over to WWE and he was happy doing his own thing.
“I’m in no rush. I don’t have to go that route, straight to developmental and then maybe get released, and go through depression. I’m like, no, I’ll just do it my own way, have fun, wrestle, and get as good as I can get. If I get a great offer, I’ll take it. If not, no big deal. I’m having fun doing what I’m loving doing,” Gordon said.
It’s surprising that Tony Khan didn’t re-sign Gordon as he was really hot in 2017/2018 before he purchased the brand in 2021. Whatever the case may be, Gordon seems happy, so congrats on his new CMLL deal!
