Did you know that Frankie Kazarian was undefeated in Ladder matches?
Luckily for Steve Maclin, he doesn’t have to worry about that on September 18th. But back in the mid-2000’s, the former X-Division Champion had a long undefeated streak going with Ladder matches. That streak was eventually broken by Christopher Daniels in 2009.
Speaking to Sean Ross Sapp, Frankie talked about his brief undefeated streak and revealed his favorite ladder match.
“For a long time at TNA, I was on a pretty cool run of being undefeated in ladder matches for a long time. Starting with, I had one of my very favorite matches against Christian
Cage in 2007, a ladder match that kind of helped put me on the map as a top singles guy here in the company; with AJ Styles and with the Young Bucks, Christopher Daniels and just you name it. I’m known for, in terms of the word gimmick match, I’m kind of known as one of the Ultimate X guys because of course I was in the first one of those matches.”
Frankie talks about his love for ladder matches and that’s thanks to Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels.
“But ladder matches, I was always—in terms of specialty matches—I always enjoyed those because I’m of the generation that saw Razor and Shawn do the mainstream first one, and just was amazed and mesmerized and then saw what the Hardyz and the Dudleyz and Edge & Christian brought that to and just tried to take what those gentlemen put in place and move it forward in our own creative direction. Look, I’m a traditionalist.
I like a straight up singles match, but give me a good ladder match, straight up ladder match with two very talented wrestlers and that can steal the show on any card. I’ve been blessed to have a lot of really cool opponents and be in some really good scenarios when it comes to ladder matches. I’ve also lost a lot of blood and gotten banged up quite a bit because they are very dangerous. I had a cool run of ladder matches, especially early on in TNA here.”
