We could be looking at the new ROH World Champion soon.
At Death Before Dishonor, Hechicero will challenge Bandido for the ROH World title. Ever since Hechicero made his debut for AEW/ROH in 2024, he’s been looking to get an opportunity at championship gold within the promotion.
This is his first opportunity. Though this isn't his first chance at winning a world title; Hechicero is a famed wrestler from CMLL and is a former CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. Tonight, the mission is clear for Hechicero : to become a champion. The challenger spoke to Pep Shop Collectibles for a interview, and laid out the importance of winning the ROH World Championship.
“The goal is very clear: to be champion. There’s no other option, it’s the only goal. I think if not c there would have been no point in challenging myself. The goal is unique and clear: I’m looking for that championship. I’m looking to make history with Ring Of Honor. It’s a brand, a company. We can practically say that right now, at this stage, a large portion of wrestlers who are global superstars from different companies and countries, they all went through Ring Of Honor. The wrestlers who are in your right now all went through Ring Of Honor. Some wrestlers are even on the verge of retirement, considered legends, others are in their prime, others were formed and it was a great boost to go through ROH.”
Hechicero doesn’t want to just be put in the same history books as AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, or The Briscoe Brothers, but he knows that carrying the ROH World Championship will elevate him in a major way.
“So, having this championship is going down in history and being on another stage, it’s positioning myself another step higher in my career. A championship that is prestigious, the prestige that ROH has and the history it carries and carrying it will take me to another dimension."
Will Hechicero elevate himself into another dimension? We’ll find out tonight! In addition to him challenging for the ROH World Championship, Athena will also defend the ROH Women’s World title against Mina Shirakawa, and Sammy Guevara will pull double duty by defending both the ROH Six Man and World Tag Team titles. On paper, this should be a great pay-per-view.
Check out the full interview where he talks more about his time in ROH/AEW, his wrestling career in general, and so much more.
