A new World Middleweight Champion will be crowned at Fightland.
At Battle Riot VII, it was confirmed that Mistico would vacate the MLW World Middleweight due to suffering a major injury. But Ikuro Kwon tried to take the easy way by stealing the belt without actually earning it.
Once officials got the belt back from the CONTRA member, it was on ice until officials figured out what the next move was.
Then a match was made official.
If Ikuro Kwon wants the belt, he’ll have to beat Templario for it at the upcoming September event. Kwon has been running roughshod over MLW throughout the past couple of years. Though he may not be strong, the 28-year-old is a violent and dangerous member of the CONTRA Unit. Kwon was an unstoppable force with Tomohiro Ishii when they won the MLW World Tag Team titles back in 2024. But this will be the first singles title that Kwon wins should he get a victory over his opponent.
Templario is a relative newcomer to MLW. The CMLL star came in hot at SuperFight by putting off a massive upset by pinning Mistico in his debut match! Templario has fought across the globe before making his way over to MLW; he’s competed in New Japan Pro Wrestling, AEW, and of course, CMLL. Templario is no stranger to holding the middleweight title as he’s a former CMLL World Middleweight Champion. He held that belt for 824 days, beating top names such as Flip Gordon, Volador Jr., and Dragon Rojo Jr.
Should Templario win then this will be his first singles title within MLW. The announcement of the MLW World Middleweight Championship match comes after it was confirmed that Matt Riddle will defend the MLW World Heavyweight title against Donovan Dijak. Blue Panther Jr., Bishop Dyer, Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis, and Titan will also be in action on the Fightland card.
Check out the confirmed matches that are scheduled for September 13 from the NYTEX Sports Centre, in North Richland Hills, Texas.
