One of the best wrestlers in the world now holds the record for the longest title reign in New Japan Wrestling history.

Kazucika Okada won the IWGP title back in June 19, 2016 at the Dominion event when he defeated Naito. Since then, Okada has defended the title against wrestlers such as Kenny Omega (Twice), Cody Rhodes, Katsuyori Shibata, and Naomichi Marufuji.

On Sunday, Okada passed Hashimoto's IWGP title reign by holding the belt for 490 days.

Okada's next title defense will be against Tetsuya Naito, the G-1 Climax winner, in the main event of WrestleKingdom 12 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan on January 4, 2018.
