Kristal Marshall hasn’t wrestled in nearly two decades.
But the former WWE diva is set to lace up those boots once again as it’s been confirmed that the 41-year-old will compete in All Caribbean Wrestling. Marshal talked about getting into the squared circle with the Velvet Ropes (via Fightful), and she seems to be pretty excited about it.
“I am so excited about all of it. My family is from Barbados. I’m first-generation American. I am a dual citizen. So the show that I’m going to be a part of is in Barbados. So it’s like a huge homecoming of a sort… It’s a beautiful place, and it’s an opportunity for wrestling to expand in the heart of the Caribbean. So it’s an honor, and I’m super excited for you guys to see it and to support it and watch it grow.“
Kristal came in through the WWE Diva Search in 2005 and was mostly in a valet/backstage role. Kristal did have matches here and there, but she wasn’t a prominent name like Mickie James or Michelle McCool.
Arguably, the most memorable thing about Kristal’s run was her wedding with Teddy Long, where he had a “heart attack” during the ceremony. However, she was released a short time later following the wedding segment.
Kristal has talked about always wanting to be a wrestler, but the company apparently had different plans that she was too thrilled with.
”I wanted to wrestle. They did not want a lot of the Divas to wrestle, and specifically, they picked and choose who they wanted to.” Kristal said Timmy Baltimore’s podcast Limpin Ain’t Easy. “For example, when I was going through the diva search I remember vividly Kevin Dunn backstage, this was when we were going out to do some silly talent thing or whatever in a segment, and he’s telling the girls they have to come up with something to do.
He’s going down the line asking each girl what they are going to do and he stops at Ashley, who bless her soul…I remember he stops at Ashley and he goes, you’re going to do a monkey flip. So I go, does that mean I get to do a wrestling move also and he goes ‘no.’ And I said, ‘that’s not fair’ and he leans over and tells me, ‘life’s not fair.’ I never forgot that.”
Now the former WWE star gets to prove that she’s a capable athlete who deserved a shot at being featured better as a wrestler. There’s no confirmed date for Kristal’s return at the moment. We’ll keep you updated when more information comes out.
