Lio Rush is starting to make waves on the independent scene again.
The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion just confirmed for PROGRESS Wrestling’s Chapter 185 - Jump in the Line and now, he’ll be taking on Mascara Dorada at the upcoming CMLL x RevPro Fantastica Mania.
Rush has been wrestling around the world for the last couple of years. The 30-year-old actually made his CMLL debut back in June at the CMLL vs. AEW/ROH event. That night, he teamed with his CRU partner Action Andretti to take on Los Hermanos Chavez (Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja). Rush and Andretti ended up taking the loss that night.
But that wasn’t the only CMLL match that these two fought together. In fact, Rush’s exclusive appearance in CMLL has only seen him team with his AEW partner. Their last match was a two out of the three falls bout against Galeon Fantasma (Barboza & Zandokan Jr.) in August. His one-on-one match against Mascara Dorada is the first singles match he’s had in CMLL.
Mascara just started wrestling four years ago and the guy has gotten some much traction throughout the years. The 23-year-old has competed in AEW for the last two years, but his main home is CMLL. Dorada is currently the CMLL World Trios Champion with Mistico and Neon. However, Dorada recently had a huge breakout moment in AEW as he was one of the three men who fought for the Unified title with Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita at All Out.
It was a tremendous match and his bout against Rush should also be great. Dorada hasn’t been seen since that incredible three way bout. There’s no word on when he’ll make his return to AEW.
As far as Lio Rush’s return to AEW, that’s currently unknown. Lio Rush isn’t injured, so this is a case of AEW not knowing what to do with him at the moment. The last time he competed in AEW was a pre-show match on Forbidden Door. Hopefully, that changes in the coming months as Rush can be a valuable commodity if given a chance, but the AEW roster is so stacked that it’s hard to give the spotlight to everyone. Of course, it doesn’t help when Tony Khan continues to add new names like Andrade to the roster.
