The pursuit of gold will never end for Mercedes Mone.
The TBS Champion is chasing after her eleventh title as it’s been confirmed that Mone will challenge Jody Threat for the WPW Women’s Championship on Sunday, October 19th.
Currently, Mercedes holds nine titles such as the TBS championship in AEW, the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship in RevPro, CMLL World Women's Championship, EWA Women’s Championship, and DW Women's Championship.
Mone is fresh off of defending the TBS Championship against inaugural AEW Women’s World Champion Riho. Despite putting up a valiant effort, Riho lost the match following her signature Money maker finisher.
Jody Threat is mostly known for her time in TNA/Impact Wrestling. Threat was formerly in a group known as Spitfire with Dani Luna. The Knockouts have held the TNA Knockouts Tag Team titles on two separate occasions. The first was when Luna and Threat beat MK Ultra (Killer Kelly & Masha Slamovich) at the 2024 Sacrifice pay-per-view. That run lasted 56 days. They recaptured the titles at Victory Road 2024 by defeating Tasha Steelz and Masha Slamovich. That run lasted 182 days. The duo split up after losing their final opportunity to win back the titles at Under Siege by losing to The Elegance Brand. Since then, Threat has been used sparingly as a singles star, though she hasn’t been given much to do since her break-up with Dani Luna.
Threat actually just won the WPW Women’s Championship from Ava Lawless back on Sept. 12th. This is officially her first title defense. Given that Mone seems to be doing the Belt Collector gimmick, it wouldn’t be particularly surprising if she won her eleventh title in a couple of weeks.
Mone has not lost a singles match outside of AEW since 2023 when Willow Nightingale beat her for the vacant NJPW Strong Women’s Championship. Even then, Mone was originally scheduled to win the title that night, but she called an audible after suffering an injury that forced her out of action for months. Will the Mone train continue with another win that adds to her collection of titles? Or will Mercedes lose her first singles match on the independent scene in over two years?
