Could Mistico be AEW bound soon?
The former WWE star has had quite the breakout year in 2025. While Mistico was famous because of his incredible body of work throughout Mexico, most fans in the states remember him from the failed WWE days as Sin Cara.
Mistico has been working hard to shed that image and it’s paying off nicely. Earlier in the Summer, the 42-year-old got into a feud with former AEW World Champion MJF and that resulted in a bloody and unforgettable match at CMLL’s 92nd Anniversary show last month.
Mistico is also in the middle of the 2025 Opera Cup tournament in MLW where he's gotten to showcase his skills against the likes of Ultimo Guerrero and Austin Aries. The CMLL star got the chance to sit down and talk to WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard and he was happy to show how good he was during his feud with MJF.
“I proved that Mistico is one of the best luchadores in the world. And I proved to MJF that I have a lot of potential, that I show how good Mistico is,” he explained. “I proved how a wrestler needs to defend his mask. Even if I had to bluff, even with the attacks that I received, everything.
I didn’t care about blood, sweat or tears,” Mistico said. “What makes me proud, what [inspires] me, is the people the fans, my company. I proved that I’m not a little one. I think that this time [MJF was caught offguard with what I’m capable of], and [showed] that a luchador proves everything he can do for the company, for the fans, and for his mask.”
The CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion wouldn’t mind signing a dual contract with a promotion like AEW or MLW as he’s looking for new opportunities in his career.
“I’m looking for an opportunity in any promotion in the world. If I receive an opportunity, I will take it. I proved that I love Lucha Libre. It doesn’t matter if it’s in Mexico, London, Japan. I think that I’ve shown what I’m made of, and now I think it’s time to look for new things,” he explained.
“And if I have an opportunity for a championship in an American company, I’m going to do it in AEW and MLW with all the pleasure of the world,” Mistico said. “Like other teammates who have a wonderful double contract, I would like to have that kind of contract. Or also to have new rivalries with other superstars. So I’m looking for new opportunities and new challenges in my career.”
