ROH has another women's title.
The women of Ring of Honor can rejoice as another belt will be added to their promotion soon. This past Saturday, Tony Khan revealed the ROH Women’s Pure Championship following Collision.
The men’s Pure Championship was introduced in 2004 and came with a special set of rules that separate the belt from every other title in ROH:
- Three Rope Breaks per competitor
- A twenty count on the arena floor.
- No closed fists. If you were to use a closed fist once, you’d get a warning. If you used one a second time, you’d lose a rope break. If you had no more rope breaks, you’d be disqualified
- You can lose the championship on a count-out or disqualification.
The inaugural ROH Pure Champion was AJ Styles. Lee Moriarty is the current Pure Champion. Only can assume that the women’s belt will follow the same rules as the men’s. It was revealed by Khan himself that the inaugural ROH Women’s Pure Champion will be crowned at Supercard of Honor. The new champion will be determined through a classic ROH tournament. At the moment, there’s no word on the potential participants in the tournament.
This makes three belts for the women in ROH. The ROH President introduced the ROH Women’s World Television Championship in 2023 and Billie Starkz won the belt at Supercard of Honor 2024. Red Velvet is currently the ROH Women’s World Television Champion.
It’s definitely a great opportunity for the women of Ring of Honor, though the biggest problem with the promotion these days is that it’s being saddled behind a paywall. Tony Khan has talked about a television deal on a media call and he’s not in a rush to make one.
"We've had great conversations about it — domestically and internationally — and I want to make sure that when we make a deal, we make the best deal possible," Khan explained. "So, I haven't been rushing; we have so many exciting things happening here around AEW right now." The AEW President then pointed to "Dynamite" and "Collision's" recent successes on streaming as well as AEW's partnership with Amazon Prime as indicators for the success he wants to achieve with ROH.
"I think, as we're getting all of our business lines in order and planning these new revenue streams, I do think Ring of Honor has so much potential," Khan added. "I think that we had a great Final Battle show at Hammerstein this year." Additionally, he pointed towards the progress of the wrestlers signed to ROH and how he thinks they're currently doing great things. "I can't say for sure when or where that [a TV deal] will happen, but it's definitely something we're interested in and have been putting time in."
Whatever the case may be, it should be fun to see who becomes the first-ever ROH Women’s Pure Champion.
