The Opera Cup continues.
Fresh off the thrilling Fightland show where Matt Riddle lost the MLW World Heavyweight Championship and MJF made a special appearance, Slaughterhouse is teasing to be just as exciting as the previous event.
The next round of the 2025 Opera Cup has been made official as Mistico is set to go one-on-one against a CMLL legend, Ultimo Guerrero.
Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero didn’t have much of a challenge in their first round matches. Mistico beat Ikuro Kwon with ease with a top rope Spanish Fly and Guerrero put an end to Esfinger with an inverted superplex. But with a combined experience of 62 years between those ropes, the second round match won’t be that easy.
For Mistico, he’s no stranger to the Opera Cup as the CMLL star won the tournament in 2024. The 42-year-old had an incredible 2024 in MLW as not only did he win the 2024 Opera Cup, but he also became the MLW World Middleweight Champion. Since joining MLW last year, Mistico has yet to be pinned or submitted, so it’s no surprise that the early tournament matches barely broke a sweat for the former MLW World Middleweight Champion.
But Ultimo Guerrero is no stranger to winning titles in MLW. Currently, Guerrero is the MLW National Openweight Champion. The wrestling veteran has held that belt for an impressive 138 days; beating Hechicero, Alex Hammerstone, Matthew Justice, and Blue Panther. Though he’s not undefeated in MLW, Guerrero has yet to take a pinfall or submission loss in the company in 2025.
Who will be the first man to drop that moniker?
We’ll find out on Saturday, October 4 at Thunder Studios Arena in Long Beach, CA. But that wasn’t the only match confirmed for the Slaughter house event.
Shoko Nakajima is going strong as the MLW World Featherweight Champion. Nakajima successfully defended her belt against a very game Yuki Kamifuku and now it’s been confirmed that HIMAWARI will be her next opponent. She’s successfully defended her title three times since winning it Battle Riot VII. That was also the same night that HIMAWARI made her MLW debut and she turned some heads quickly thanks to her impressive performance and the event.
Now, these two will collide for the first time within the company to determine who’s the better featherweight. Can Shoko Nakajima retain her MLW World Featherweight title for the fourth time? We’ll find out next month.
