UFC double champ Amanda Nunes made an appearance at UFC Fortaleza on Saturday night. Speaking to reporters backstage, the women's bantamweight and featherweight champion addressed a number of questions, including a potential matchup with Holly Holm or even a rematch with Cris "Cyborg." Nunes was open to the possibility of both, but what was most surprising was her admittance that she was thinking about taking an extended break, or even retirement.
Nunes explained that after her fight against "Cyborg," she returned home to her family. It was there that her mother encouraged her to retire from the sport.
"Holly Holm is the only fighter that is a former champion that I didn't fight. That would be a very interesting fight for sure," said Nunes, who was then asked if a victory over Holm would encourage retirement.
"Mine is going to be my last one and take a little break and let's see what is going on with my life and what I'm going to do next," Nunes continued. "I'm a little bit tired of all the big fights in my life that I'm very happy and proud and glad that everything happened like that. I want a little break to have a family."
But while Nunes was open about a break or retirement, she acknowledged that a fighter's mentality is unpredictable. Nunes was also talked about a possible rematch with Cris "Cyborg" after a fight with Holly Holm.
"That would be cool as well," she said. "I think these two girls are the only two that make sense to fight again. I did everything that I want. Only these two girls make sense for me right now."
And if all of that works out, there's also the possibility of Amanda Nunes dropping down to the 125 division to possibly challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the women's flyweight belt.
On the possibility of becoming a triple champ, Nunes responded, "That would be cool as well if they give me some time. Going down is harder. I need to make the weight first in the gym and spar and see how I feel. I want to make weight for the second time against her. If they are able to do that, I'm down. I think that would be cool."
