Chuck Liddell may personally believe he's got more left in the tank, but the powers seem to think otherwise. As reported by MMA Fighting, the 48-year-old fighter has been suspended indefinitely by the California State Athletic Commission following his fight against Tito Ortiz.
Liddell was
absolutely dominated in the trilogy fight against his longtime rival, appearing as a shell of his former great self. A tentative and slow Liddell danced around the cage for almost the entire first round before he was tagged by a pair of right hands and knocked out cold.
Following the fight, Liddell told reporters that he still felt good and refused to say if he was contemplating retirement. If he won't, however, it appears California state commission officials will. MMA Fighting received the commission's finalized medical suspension report. Here's what it specifically says about the two fighters:
-
Chuck Liddell: Suspended indefinitely, see California commission; minimum suspension of 45 days no contest, 30 days no contact due to KO loss
-
Tito Ortiz: Suspended 180 days or until cleared by physician for possible fracture to left shoulder, left knee
If Liddell wishes to fight again in North America, he'll be required to apply for his indefinite suspension to be lifted. Earlier this week, Tito Ortiz finally announced his retirement, saying on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show,
"There's no reason to come back and fight anybody else. Who is there? There's no one else out there. I've fought the who's who. I've done what I needed to do."
