Looks like Daniel Cormier won’t be retiring anytime soon.
The UFC President confirmed recently that the promotion does indeed plan to book a third fight between Cormier and Stipe Miocic once both fighters are healthy enough to compete:
“Stipe is recovering from that fight. He’s got some bumps and bangs from that fight. We’re waiting for him to heal and then yeah, we’re going to do the trilogy,” White told
Barstool Sports.
Cormier stunned many when he defeated Miocic via knockout in their first encounter at UFC 226. After a potential fight with Brock Lesnar never materialized, Cormier ended up fighting Miocic again and lost to the new UFC Heavyweight Champion via Knockout at UFC 241.
Following his bout against Miocic, the 40-year-old penned a lengthy statement apologizing over his loss to Stipe at UFC 241 and congratulated the new Heavyweight Champion, and then thanked Dana White for his time in the promotion. Cormier stated that he needed to think about his future in MMA, but would let the fans know as soon as he had an answer.
Cormier hasn’t yet confirmed whether he’ll return to the octagon; however, White appears confident that a third match between two heavyweights will happen. There’s no word on when the fight could happen. We’ll keep you updated with the news should the fight be made official.
