I think we can safely assume that Conor McGregor’s “retirement” was nothing more than talk from the former lightweight champion.
Dana White – who also never believed that McGregor was officially done inside the octagon – stated at the UFC seasonal press conference (
via Dave Doyle & John Morgan of MMA Junkie) that he’ll be meeting with Conor in Miami in two weeks. While the UFC President never dives into details about what the meeting will be about, one has to assume that it has to do with the former lightweight champion looking to make a return to the octagon.
The former two-division champion is currently dealing with a host of problems outside of the octagon, such as the case surrounding the cellphone smashing in Florida, accusations of sexual assault and a bar room fight in Ireland; however, it’s possible that he could be looking to get a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
McGregor’s last win was back in 2016 over Eddie Alvarez via knockout. Nurmagomedov forced McGregor to tap out with a neck crank during their championship fight last October. As previously stated, this is just speculation, as what White and McGregor will discuss is completely unknown.
