It appears that the UFC Heavyweight title fight is closer to having an official date.
Ever since Dana White confirmed that Francis Ngannou was the next challenger for the 235-pound belt, the only question left was when Ngannou and Stipe Miocic were going to finally clash. It was reported that the heavyweight champ was dealing with an injury, thus he wouldn’t be able to fight until 2021 and now, Dana White confirms the news himself.
According to the UFC president, officials are targeting March for the big heavyweight bout between Miocic and Ngannou. White made it clear that the fight was far from a done deal, but simply stated a timeline for when he hopes to book the rematch:
“That fight won’t be ready till March,” White told TMZ when asked about the heavyweight title fight. “It could [happen in March] yeah, that’s the goal. We’ll see what happens.”
Thus far, Miocic has been quiet in terms of his potential rematch against Ngannou, though the heavyweight champion stated that he wasn't excited about fighting Ngannou once again. The two fighters collided back at UFC 220 and the 38-year-old won the bout in a lopsided victory.
Ngannou earned his rematch by knocking out former UFC Heavyweight Champions Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez, along with Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Curtis Blaydes.
