Donald Cerrone has to win at UFC Vegas 11.
The popular welterweight is scheduled to fight Niko Price this Saturday; however, could this fight be his last in the UFC?
Coming in, Cerrone is in the midst of a four-fight losing streak, with his recent loss being against former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis. During the press conference on Wednesday, the 37-year-old made it clear that he has no intentions on walking away from the sport anytime soon, despite his losing streak (Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie):
“Hell no,” Cerrone said when asked about retirement. “No. Not even in my train of thought. Wrong question. … I’m planning on being here for a long time. I’m going to leave when I’m done. I don’t ever want the walking papers. When ‘Cowboy’s’ done fighting, I’m going to bend my hat and I’m going to say, ‘All right boys, I’ve had enough. I’m out.’ I don’t ever want to have them call my manger and release me, that would totally suck. I’m going to keep fighting my ass off.”
However, Dana White doesn’t share the same feelings that Cerrone has as the UFC President stated that “everything is on the line” in his upcoming match-up:
“I would say everything is on the line for ‘Cowboy,'” White said on SportsCenter. “In professional sports, the day starts to come where all of our heroes start to get old, and ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is getting there. He needs a win. He needs a win badly.”
Cerrone hasn’t had a chance to respond to White’s comments, but its clear that he may end up being released if he’s unable to beat Price this Saturday. Dana White has been trimming the fat off his roster lately, so cutting the “Cowboy” wouldn’t be an issue for the UFC President.
