Former UFC women's featherweight champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino has plans to test the free-agent market after her contract with the UFC expires.
Cyborg has one more fight remaining on her current contract and will fulfill that with her UFC 240 co-main event bout against Felicia Spencer on July 27. She will then have an exclusive negotiating window with the UFC before becoming a free agent.
"I want to see other promoters, see how much value I have," Justino told ESPN's Ariel Helwani. "I think it's cool to see that before you can hear anything [about] that you don't have value. Let's see. Let's see what another promoter has to say."
Cyborg, who is widely considered to be among the best in the sport, made her debut in the UFC in 2016 with a win against Leslie Smith. She went on to win five straight fights, including the UFC women's featherweight championship, before losing to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 in December 2018. It was her first professional loss in 13 years.
Cyborg tumultuous relationship with the UFC and president Dana White has been well-documented. Responding to White's comments last weekend, in which he said he wasn't sure if Cyborg wanted a rematch with Nunes for the 145-pound title, the former featherweight champion said she believes White is "trying to damage my brand."
Cyborg added that people in the UFC have told her she doesn't have real value, which is part of the reason she will test free agency.
"Why not?" Justino said. "The opportunity is coming, and I have the opportunity to see my value with other promoters."
