The former UFC fighter has decided that its time to hang up the gloves.
This past Friday, Josh Burkman competed in his first bout since being released from the UFC in 2018, but ultimately lost via split decision to William Macario at Legacy Fighting Alliance 66. In the post-fight interview, after fighting inside the octagon for over 15 years, Burkman has decided to call it quits.
Burkman’s career ended on a six-fight losing streak, with the Utah native’s last win being in 2016 against K.J. Noons. The MMA veteran mostly competed as a welterweight, though he’s had brief stints in the lightweight and middleweight divisions as well.
The 39-year-old was able to get notable wins over numerous fighters throughout his career, including victories over Sam Morgan, Drew Fickett, Josh Neer, Forrest Petz, Jamie Yager, and Gerald Harris. The now retired professional fighter ends his career with 28 wins, 18 losses, and 1 no contest.
A now retired Burkman didn’t reveal any post-career plans in the post-fight interview, thus it is unknown what the former fighter plans on pursuing next now that his professional MMA career has come to an end.
