Leon Edwards calls out another top ranked fighter.
Thus far, the No. 3 ranked welterweight has failed to gain traction with his callouts against Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington, and based off the recent comments from Burns, his challenge to the No. 1 contender may end up suffering the same fate.
To recall, Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns is officially off the UFC 256 pay-per-view due to the welterweight champion needing more time to heal. Reports state that the fight could be rescheduled for sometime in January or February, though no date has been confirmed.
Shortly after the bout was scrapped, Edwards called out the Brazilian to determine who the real No. 1 contender is:
While Burns hasn’t directly responded to Edwards, the 34-year-old made it clear when that he wasn’t taking any other fights when a match-up between him and Edwards was suggested by Ariel Helwani.
Of course, anything can change in the world of MMA, but with Edwards turning down the opportunity to fight Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson then he’ll likely sit on the sidelines until a higher ranked competitor finally accepts his challenge.
