Undefeated bantamweight Sean O’Malley was supposed to return to the Octagon at UFC 229 this weekend, but it appears the fighter has hit a speed bump. O'Malley (10-0) took social media to announce that he has been pulled from his fight against Jose Quiñonez after failing an out-of-competition drug test.
Although the UFC no longer announces potential violations of the USADA program, O'Malley took it upon himself to share the news with fans. O'Malley didn't reveal what banned substance he tested positive for but said he believes he has already identified
"a dietary supplement that would have caused this."
"I have no intention of cheating and am fully confident that the results of this case will show that," he wrote.
"I love my fans and I hope the impact on my career is minimal and I'm back to fighting real soon."
The UFC has not yet announced if it will find a replacement fighter to take O'Malley's spot against Quiñonez. UFC 229 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 6. The event is headlined by the highly anticipated return of superstar Conor McGregor, who is looking to reclaim the UFC lightweight championship belt from Khabib Nurmagomedov.
