The build towards Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic seems to be taking a personal turn this time around. The challenger for the UFC Heavyweight championship recently called Cormier a “idiot” on the situation regarding him getting his title rematch.
Ever since UFC 226, Dana White and Cormier have been looking to lock a big money fight between the reigning Heavyweight champion and Brock Lesnar. Fast forward to late April, and talks for the huge match-up fell through and Lesnar ultimately announced his retirement from MMA.
Miocic was campaigning for a rematch against Cormier during this time; however, the Heavyweight champ eventually got tired of hearing the former champion continuously ralling to get another title fight, shutting down Miocic for his numerous attempts.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Miocic vented about the Heavyweight title situation, stating that Cormier's an “idiot” on the way he handled it and said that,
“he’s like a woman when they want to go out to eat dinner but they have no idea what they want to go eat but they say they want to eat somewhere but they change their mind. It’s just never-ending.”
Cormier has responded with a promise to break Miocic like Jon Jones almost did to him.
“Fighters, we’re a different breed,” Cormier said on his
Talk and Talker podcast recently.
“Right away I was like, ‘Oh Stipe, son of a b*tch.’ But I like it though because the first time he’s all chummy and he’s all quiet and he doesn’t want to build a fight. Now at least he’s being vocal about how he feels. Be vocal. Tell me how you feel and that you want to kick my ass so when I kick your ass again, then you’re like in a dark room, just done.
“He’s gonna be done. After this one, it will be very hard for Stipe to get back to where he once was because this one’s going to break him. I know what the second Jones fight did to me. It almost broke me. But all my life experiences - my father, my cousin, my daughter, my roommate - all those life experiences allowed me to keep things in perspective, whereas he hasn’t really had to do that. So when he loses in this spot, I don’t think he’ll be able to recover from it. It’ll be too much.”
We’ll see what happens at UFC 241, as Cormier is scheduled to fight Stipe Miocic once again for the UFC Heavyweight title.
