UFC lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to be done with Conor McGregor.
Nurmagomedov shocked many within the mixed martial arts world by making the former two-division champion tap out at UFC 229 in the fourth round with a rear-naked choke. That pushed his undefeated record to 27-0, and while McGregor is looking to get a rematch after a disappointing performance at the pay-per-view, the current UFC lightweight champion is looking to finally move on from ‘The Notorious’ (transcript courtesy of mmafighting.com):
“The last three years he only have one victory in amateur boxing, how [does] he deserve rematch?” Nurmagomedov said about McGregor. “He tapped. He begged me ‘please, don’t kill me’ and he talks about rematch. Tony Ferguson on the line. People who have win streak are on the line but not the guy who don’t win nothing the last three years. I have a lot of work without him. Right now, I’m focused on Sept. 7.”
White has expressed interest in booking a rematch between Nurmagomedov and McGregor; however, the lightweight champ is currently focused on one person right now, Dustin Poirier:
“I don’t want to underestimate my opponent in Dustin. He’s a tough challenge for me. Right now I don’t want to think about other opponents. I have to focus on my opponent. I’m preparing for this fight like I’m going to have the hardest fight in my life,” Nurmagomedov said. “I can’t wait. Sept. 7 is going to be a big, big night for me, for my legacy and for Dustin, too.”
