UFC Officially Releases Bantamweight Fighter Ray Borg Following His Latest Withdrawal

Ray Borg is no longer with the UFC.

This past week, Eric Spicely was released for pulling out of his UFC Vegas 5 fight against Markus Perez and now, veteran Ray Borg has been let go from the company as well. Borg was originally set to fight Nathan Maness on the fight night show; however, the bantamweight was pulled from the bout for undisclosed reasons.

Unfortunately, Borg has struggled throughout his UFC career as the former UFC flyweight title challenger is well-known for pulling out of fights and has missed weight four times (once as a bantamweight and three times as a flyweight).

The 27-year-old has managed to fight twice this past year, with Borg getting a victory over Rogerio Bontorin at UFC Fight Night 167; however, the issue of Borg consistently pulling out of fights throughout his UFC tenure may have been the deciding factor for his release. This is just pure speculation as there’s no reason why Borg was let go from the company.

Borg had been fighting in the UFC since 2014 and scored huge wins over Louis Smolka, Jussier Formiga, and Shane Howell. Borg got a chance to fight Demetrius Johnson for the UFC Flyweight title at UFC 216 and while the challenger gave Johnson a run for his money, Borg ultimately lost via submission in the fifth round. Borg leaves the promotion with 13 wins and 5 losses.
