Ronda Rousey successfully made the leap from mixed martial arts to professional wrestling and her transition from UFC to WWE is one she made look effortless.
Unfortunately, WWE's decision to book the Baddest Woman on the Planet as a smiling babyface led to a disconnect with fans and Rousey clearly grew frustrated with being booed. A heel turn came too little too late and the damage was done by the time she eventually returned.
Now, someone who should have been WWE's biggest Superstar feels like just another woman on the roster. It's not exactly surprising then that Rousey is thought to have left the company following her loss to Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam.
UFC fighter Chelsea Chandler recently claimed to have heard about Rousey's plan to return as a featherweight, and while the rumour she started was quickly debunked, speculation is still running rampant about her possible role at UFC 300.
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, UFC President Dana White chimed in to say, "There's no shot. She's accomplished everything she set out to do. Her dream was to win a UFC championship, then win a WWE championship, and she's done it."
"Now she’s starting a family. Ronda has made so much money, and she’s still making a lot of money in sponsorships."
Rousey hasn't stepped into the Octagon since suffering back-to-back losses. Those came when she lost the UFC Women's Bantamweight Title to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November 2015 and then in a 48-second TKO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December 2016.
The Baddest Woman on the Planet would be a huge draw for UFC 300 and we wouldn't count out the possibility she might at least show up in the crowd. For now, though, it's apparent Rousey has no plans to fight again.
As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them.
