Back in August 2017, the UFC's most prized fighter Conor McGregor made the jump to boxing to take on an undefeated Floyd Mayweather. McGregor lost, as one should've expected given the matchup against the greatest boxer of all time, but the fight resulted in a big payday for all involved.
Now Khabib Nurmagomedov, fresh off his dominant victory over McGregor, is looking to cash in on his success and has
also issued a challenge to fight Mayweather, who seems open to the idea. UFC president Dana White previously told fans not to pay attention to the chatter, but it looks like the rumors aren't going away anytime soon as speculation and anticipation for the fight continue to grow.
Well, if a fight between the two does happen, Dana White is laying the ground rules. Speaking to TMZ Sports, White challenged Mayweather to step into the Octagon for his fight against Khabib.
“Listen, if Mayweather wants to fight, come fight. You fight in the UFC. We’re not boxing again. We did that once. That’s over. You want to fight? Come fight. A real fight.”
Should a super fight between Khabib and Mayweather not work out, White says the only fight that makes sense is a matchup against Tony Ferguson, who defeated Anthony Pettis in a bloodbath at UFC 229. Of course, this all comes down to what the Nevada State Athletic Commission rules for Khabib's suspension.
