EVIL Defeats Tetsuya Naito At NJPW DOMINION To Become New IWGP Heavyweight And IC Champion

Everything really is EVIL! After turning his back on Tetsuya Naito and joining the Bullet Club to win the New Japan Cup, the King of Darkness defeated his former friend at Dominion to claim both IWGP titles.

EVIL is the new IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion after defeating Tetsuya Naito in the main event of NJPW's Dominion event.

The King of Darkness betrayed his former Los Ingobernables leader after winning the New Japan Cup and aligning himself with the Bullet Club, and his new friends were integral to him coming out on top at Dominion. Naito would not give in, however, and looked like he was about to prevail when a wrestler wearing a BUSHI mask got involved.

This mystery man turned out to be former WWE Superstar Dick Togo (remember Kai En Tai?), who proceeded to choke Naito out with cables, setting him up for EVIL's Everything is Evil finisher. LIDJ fans around the world were holding their breath for a kick-out, but Testsuya stayed down for the 3-count, losing the titles he'd fought so long and hard to acquire.

After the match, a distraught Hiromu Takahashi rushed the ring to protect the Los Ingobernables leader while also challenging EVIL to a match for both titles. There was no response.

While this was most definitely an unexpected outcome, EVIL has been on the cusp of reaching the next level in NJPW for quite some time now, so many would agree that him becoming champion is long overdue. It's a shame it had to happen at Naito's expense (that was far from a substantial reign), but one could argue that the mega-popular star is at his best when fighting from underneath.
